Lovely liquid lava lamps lighting up living rooms, lounges, and laboratories.

Lava lamps were invented in 1963 by British entrepreneur Edward Craven Walker. They work using three key components – wax, dye, and oil. The wax is heated by a light bulb inside the lamp, which causes it to rise up through the oil. As it cools, the wax sinks back down, creating the mesmerizing flowing effect.
Lava lamps became hugely popular in the 1960s as decorative lighting for bedrooms and living rooms. Their hypnotic visuals were enhanced by psychedelic music and substances of the era. To this day they remain a retro icon of 1960s design and counterculture.
Some fun facts – the most popular lava lamp colors are blue and red. The largest lava lamp ever made stood over 12 feet tall! And they’re not just for decoration – scientists have studied lava lamp flows to learn more about convection currents in liquids
